Because Japanese women have one of the lowest cancer rates in the world (especially for breast cancer), it was felt until recently that they had inherent racial resistance. But now we know that Japanese women living in this country for ten years or more have a breast cancer rate equal (to) that of U.S. women.

The guilt of responsibility -- could I have wished this on myself? In this culture, which places so much emphasis on the individual, it is seen as a personal failing if one has a disease. What did I do that was wrong? Can I make it right again?
